Bhargavi Davar — Comrade in the Struggle

Tristano Ajmone & Bhargavi Davar
WAPR Congress, Athens, 12 October 2006.

Bhargavi Davar: Director of CAMH (Center for Advocacy in Mental Health), India.

“I was moved to tears reading Tristano’s story when I worked on the ‘First Person Stories...’ for the UN Convention. I could not believe the extent to which we human beings go to cause cruelty upon another person.

“His story also seemed so typically true of so many thousands of people living and dying in the institutions around the world, robbed of their dignity and violated in every way. I was delighted to meet Tristano at the WAPR, Athens. Infact this was one of the high points of that visit. I was mighty impressed with the tatoo of the four point restraint on his arm, which showed his spirit of defiance.

“I admire your strong belief in liberty and freedom, Tristano. Keep fighting the system and just keep doing that.”

— Bhargavi

During the summer of 2006 I had the chance to work with Bhargavi for the preparation of the book First Person Stories on Forced Interventions and Being Deprived of Legal Capacity, which guested my personal account of my forensic psychiatric experience.

In October 2006 I had the honour to meet Bhargavi during the WAPR Congress in Athens.

Bhargavi is an exquisite sweet person, noble hearted and receptive toward the problems surrounding human sufferance. I am honoured to be amongst her friends.

Thanks Davar!
