Prof. Thomas Szasz — Friend and Maestro

Prof. Thomas Szasz: Professor of Psychiatry Emeritus — friend and living example.

I came to know Thomas Szasz through his writings, during the dark years of my psychiatric incarceration. His thought provided meaning to my sufferance, granting me the strength to withstand the injustices to which I was subjected, and it donated me the hope that one day I could fight so that justice and freedom would triumph over institutional oppression. But, above all, Szasz’s writings called me to my personal responsibility, and I believe that without this grasp of consciousness I would have not survived.

Finally, I met Tom personally, during the Psicofestival of Fidenza, and I found a true friend, which has never ceased to offer me advice and support when daily life is about to overwhelm me.

Thomas Szasz has been a teacher of rectitude and a life model for me.
